In addition to Guido Panciroli's (1523–1599) report to Emperor Rudolf I on the siege of Fülek (present day Filakovo, Slovakia) in 1593 (1), the collection of the Ambrosiana Library of Milan also includes beautiful engravings and maps, such as Wolfgang Meyerpeck's engraving (2).

A Franciscan manuscript from the first half of the 15th century, preserved in the Ambrosiana Library, describes among other topics the life of St. Elizabeth. The saint from the House of Árpád is the daughter of Andrew II King of Hungary and Gertrude of Merano. Elizabeth often fasted, whipped herself, and wore a cilicium. She set up a shelter for orphaned children and a hospital where she herself helped with patient care. She became a member of the Secular Franciscan order. She helped the poor. Based on the legend, she had just given them bread, but the bread turned into roses when she tried to keep his charity secret. God did not want Elisabeth to lie.

An ornate copy of Enea Silvio Piccolomini's treatise on the education of children with the coat of arms of the Sforza family of Milan. The Hungarian aspect of De liberorum educatione is that it was written for the tutor of the young Ladislaus V King of Hungary and Bohemia (1440-1457). Its author is the renowned humanist who later entered the highest office of the Catholic Church as Pius II (1458-1464) The precious copy is now preserved in the Ambrosiana Library.

Letter by Zsigmond Thurzó, Provost of Fehérvár, to Aldo Manuzio a Venetian printer, on 20 December 1501, in which he encouraged his friend on behalf of György Szatmári, bishop of Várad (present day Oradea, Romania), to publish Cicero's letters. The original document is kept in the Ambrosiana Library in Milan.
